The Macedonian region can be reached by flight. The main airport in the region is Thessaloniki International Airport “Macedonia” (SKG), which is well connected to major cities in Greece and other international destinations.

2. By Train:

The region can be accessed by train from Athens and other major Greek cities. The main train station in the region is Thessaloniki Train Station.

3. By Bus:

There are regular bus services that connect the region to other Greek cities and neighboring countries.

4. By Car:

Visitors can also drive to the region via the Egnatia Highway, which connects major cities across northern Greece.

Once you reach the region, there are several local transportation options, such as buses and taxis, to get around and explore the area.

THESSALONIKI

One of the most important cultural and historical landmarks of Greek Macedonia is the ancient city of Thessaloniki, named after the half-sister of Alexander the Great. It was once one of the most important cities of the Byzantine Empire and is now a bustling modern city with a wealth of cultural and historical sites, including its famous White Tower, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, and the Church of Agios Dimitrios.

HALKIDIKI

Halkidiki is a popular tourist destination located in northern Greece, about an hour’s drive from Thessaloniki. It is a peninsula consisting of three “fingers” protruding into the Aegean Sea: Kassandra, Sithonia, and Mount Athos.

Mount Athos is the easternmost “finger” of Halkidiki and is known for being a monastic state and UNESCO World Heritage site. It is the only place in Greece where women are not allowed to visit, and only a limited number of men are allowed access each year. The monasteries in Mount Athos are home to some of the most beautiful and well-preserved Byzantine art in the world.
